On My Way to Trekkie Town
When I first heard that the powers at be in Hollywood were coming out with a new Star Trek movie, I could have cared less. I’ve never seen an episode of Star Trek and frankly, it’s really enjoyable to make fun of trekkies. I know, I know, picking on trekkies is like tripping a blind guy–it’s too easy. A friend of mine (whom I shall call Sulu for his affinity for fencing) is the only one I know (trekkie, not blind guy) and as such he’s received the most comments from me about this particular interest of his.
After watching a few previews for the new Star Trek movie, I made my way to the theater. I wanted to go to the midnight showing but was unable to experience it with all the die hard fans which is the best way to do it. Now, having watched it, there’s really only one thing to say.
Sulu, as a representative of all Star Trek fans near and far, I apologize to you. You were right.
This movie was so freaking cool that I was giddy within the first fifteen minutes. The music was, at times, a little overly dramatic but I’m willing to give them a break because after all, it is a sci-fi movie. I didn’t have high hopes for this film given that Captain James T. Kirk was going to be played by Chris Pine, an actor whom I last saw in Just My Luck.

If you’re within drunken vomit distance of Lindsay Lohan,
your life probably isn’t going as planned.
However, he has evidently learned a thing or two about acting (unlike his former leading lady) and did an amazing job. Then, it wasn’t just Chris Pine who did a good job–the entire cast was great. Other notables include Zachary Quinto from NBC’s Heroes, Zoe Saldana (who has greatly improved from co-starring with Britney Spears ), and Eric Bana, among many other talented individuals. It’s rare to come across a movie with an entirely wonderful cast. Usually there’s at least one cast member who is clearly only in the movie because they’re either related to a producer or sleeping with one.

Beyonce and both her parents were producers of Obsessed .
There were also many moments and references in the Star Trek movie to keep all the longtime, die hard fans happy. I didn’t personally catch them but others who loved the television show told me they were there. That is really a tribute to the writers and director because in order to do well with a movie that is at all related to a significant entertainment franchises of any kind, one needs to appeal to both new and old fans.
Despite all my previous mockery of Star Trek, I really can’t find enough good things to say about the movie and I highly recommend anyone with a spare $9 should run to their nearest movie theater and see it immediately. As for me, I want to see this movie again as well as watch the original series.
Next thing you know, I’ll be showing up at conventions.
Live long and prosper.

hahaha its so true.
same thing happened to me and I love it now!
